Marina Walter is the Deputy Regional Director for Arab States for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) posted in New York.
Prior to this appointment, Marina served as UNDP’s Deputy Regional Director for Europe and the CIS covering Ukraine among other. This followed multiple country-based postings as UN Resident Coordinator for the UN’s multi-Country Office covering Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Aruba, Curaçao, and St. Maarten; UNDP Country Director and Deputy Country Director in India; as well as Deputy Resident Representative in Thailand. Marina also served as the Deployment Coordinator of UNDP’s global emergency response system of the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery, and managed UNDP’s Civil Service Leadership Development Project in Afghanistan. Her career in the UN started as a Capacity Building Advisor with the UN Training and Research Institute, work which led her to Africa, Asia, and Europe. Prior to joining the UN, Marina worked as a freelance journalist in Berlin, Germany.
Marina holds a Master’s degree in Comparative Politics from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA and a Master’s degree in International Politics, Economics, and Law, from the Free University of Berlin, Germany. She speaks German, French, and English.
